The Rules

Prompt Guidelines
  • Except for Contests and Challenges, prompt themes are posted every Monday through Thursday; Friday's post is the theme-less Free-For-All.

  • Anyone may leave prompts. That includes non-members and anonymous prompts from people who have no Dreamwidth accounts.

  • Prompts may be for any source. That includes media fandoms (books, movies, video games, manga, etc.), RPF (celebrities, historical figures, etc.), and original fic.

  • Six prompts each per fandom per day. Author's Choice prompts are unlimited.

  • One prompt per comment.

  • Warn for spoilers in the subject line and leave three lines of spoiler space.

  • All ratings are allowed.

  • Pairing isn't necessarily limited to two characters.

  • Prompt format is as follows: Source, character or pairing, prompt
    • Karneval, Tsukumo and Akari, prudence

    • Karneval/Natsume Yuujinchou, Gareki and Natsume, bracelets and homes

Fill Guidelines
  • Anyone may leave fills. That includes non-members and anonymous fills from people who have no Dreamwidth accounts.

  • You may fill your own prompts.

  • You may fill prompts that already have fills; however, they will not count toward Contests or Challenges.

  • All ratings are allowed. Some people choose to rate fills and provide content notes; however, these things are neither required nor regulated. Caveat lector.

  • Fills may be any length. Fills that are too long for a single comment may be posted either as multiple comments or as an excerpt and a link.

  • Author's Choice prompts may be filled for any source. That includes media fandoms (books, movies, video games, manga, etc.), RPF (celebrities, historical figures, etc.), and original fic.

  • When filling an Author's Choice prompt, note the source somewhere in the reply for archiving purposes.

  • Fills posts are put up every Monday. You may link to any recent fills in the comments.

  • The Fic Promptly collection is open for fills submissions, for those people who have Archive of Our Own Accounts. We have recently started organizing fills into Subcollections by year they were filled, so please consider re-sorting previous fills as needed.

Challenges and Contests
  • Challenge Weeks take place roughly every four weeks, toward the end of the month. See here for details.

  • Contest Weeks replace every third Challenge Week. No prompt themes are posted during a contest; fill themes are posted instead. The four people who fill the most lonely prompts within each theme receive 20 Dreamwidth Points apiece, and the person who writes the most fills overall wins the grand prize of 50 Dreamwidth Points. Each comm member is eligible to win a single prize per contest week.
    • The grand prize takes priority over theme prizes, so writing the most fills overall wins 50 points no matter what.

    • Theme prizes are awarded chronologically, so if a comm member writes the most fills for multiple themes, the earliest theme prize is awarded. Subsequent theme prizes are awarded to the runner(s)-up. An exception may be made in the event of a tie: if one of the tied members writes the most fills for a later theme, they will win that prize instead.

    • In the event of a tie for most overall fills, each wins 50 points.

    • In the event of a themed tie between comm members who qualify for no other prizes, each wins 20 points.

    • If previous winners are the only ones to post themed fills, that day's prize will be awarded based on the number of un-themed fills. If previous winners are the only ones to post fills at all, then the 20 points will be divided among them regardless of the number of fills written that day.

  • Only fills for lonely prompts count toward challenges and contests. You're still welcome to write for previously filled prompts, though, and can link to them in the next fills post.

Guest Hosts
  • Any comm member can guest-host. All it requires is one daily prompt theme post Monday through Thursday of your scheduled week.

  • See the Calendar Post for more information and to volunteer.

Guide to the Archives
  • All prompts and fills are archived on Pinboard.

  • Each prompt gets the following tags:
    1. Source(s) or Author's Choice

    2. Filled or Lonely

    3. Crossover (if applicable)
So, for example, you can click on the Fatal Frame tag, which will bring up not only all the Fatal Frame prompts but also a list of related tags on the right. Clicking the cross hair to the right of a related tag--Lonely, for instance--will show only the lonely Fatal Frame prompts. You can then refine the search further by adding Crossover for all crossover prompts, then further still by adding Hell Girl, which gives you the lonely Fatal Frame/Hell Girl crossover prompts.

  • All Dreamwidth posts get at least one tag--most have more. You can filter by multiple tags using either and mode (shows only posts that have both Tag 1 and Tag 2) or or mode (shows all posts that contain either Tag 1 or Tag 2).

  • The old Delicious archive is still available to browse; however, it's no longer being updated, as of January 2013.

  • Any questions, suggestions, or corrections regarding Pinboard tags go here.

  • Any questions, suggestions, or corrections regarding Dreamwidth tags go here.

Conduct Guidelines
  • Treat each other with kindness and respect.

  • No bashing. You are well within your rights to dislike or even hate any given fandom, character, pairing, kink, etc., but this is not the place to vent that aversion.

  • Remember: this is a prompt comm, not a fic exchange. You are under no obligation to tailor your fills to the prompters' tastes beyond what is stated in the prompts, and "Author's Choice" means exactly that.
