Hi, I'm me_ya_ri and this is my last day of guest hosting this week. :( I always enjoy this so I'm sad to see my week end.

For Thursday, I went in a completely different direction with Power Plays. This can be as simple as using a powerful move in combat, to arguing another character into supporting the plan, all the way out to D/s interactions and slavefic where one character has absolute power over the other character or characters.

Rules are as follows:

Hinata doesn't dare stop to reflect: they're only sparring, but sparring is useless as training if you don't do it hard. Dust kicks up around her feet as she moves, her breath and her limbs in time, her Byakugan telling her how Neji's chakra is flowing and where he's going to strike next. There's no wasted energy in his attacks, only spare precise minimalism, the essence of the Gentle Fist.

And that's how she surprises him—with a moment of outrageous extravagance she learned from Naruto, a wild attack that seems to declare itself far in advance. Hinata can see Neji's brows crease with annoyance as he shifts his stance to intercept, and he bats away her attacking fist with no trouble—just as her other hand snakes out and finds the tenketsu just below his breastbone, a solid jolt of power leaving her fingertips.

Neji lands on his back in the sand. Hinata follows him, crouches beside him even though she can see the slowed movement of his chakra and knows he isn't trying to rise. He meets her eyes and she tries to tamp down the tiny thrill of triumph. Stay on your guard she reminds herself.

"Hinata-sama," he says, and the address actually sounds respectful rather than mere clan formality. He raises a hand—slowly, too slowly for an attack, but Hinata catches his wrist automatically, her body still on high alert.

Neji actually smiles at that, just a tiny quirk of his lips, but it's enough. She can read him that well, after all this time. He lets his Byakugan go, drops all pretense of keeping up his guard, so Hinata can read the intent suffusing his chakra now. Her breath catches.

She doesn't let go of his wrist, but she moves to match him: when their lips meet, it's entirely mutual.

Rory had always known that there was power in words, they could start or end wars, change the future, words had the power to inspire a generation or halt civilisation as it stood. He had watched what words could do over the 2000 years that he had waited for Amy, while he didn’t physically live it in the end, he still had vague memories of that time.

The main thing about the power of words he didn’t understand was the way that women used them, they always said one thing, and expected you to know that they meant something else. Amy did it to him all the time, and at times he almost thought that the Doctor had picked up on the habit as well; most of the time the Doctor just had difficulty finding the words that would explain what he wanted them to know without confusing them.

It was when the TARDIS joined in with Amy, telling him one thing, but meaning something else. If Amy hadn’t been with him and hadn’t understood in a way that only another woman seemed to then they would have lost all hope. The Doctor and the TARDIS in her human shell would have been trapped outside the universe and he and Amy would have been left at the mercy of House and Nephew, while House searched out his next meal.

Crimson. Eleven. Delight. Petrichor.

She hadn’t explained that instead of saying the words to enter the old control room he would need to think about them, and she had told him petrichor, couldn’t she have just said the smell of dust after rain. He would never understand woman, his wife or the time travelling police box that they travelled in. He would seek solidarity with the Doctor, but he didn’t understand half of what he said at times either.

Spike watched as Buffy sat very still. She was listening for something, and he knew better than to interrupt her. Years of skulking through the shadows had taught him how to move silently - not having a pesky heartbeat or respiration noises helped - but he had relearned how to walk heavily, how to announce his presence. Now, however, he remained silent until Buffy turned.

As he waited, Spike's thoughts drifted to how much he had learned in the last year. He had learned how to cook human food again, and how to wash dishes. Thanks to Dawn, he had learned how to coordinate and accessorize women's clothing. He had learned how to let Buffy depend on him without making her feel less independent.

Independence was very important to Buffy now, Willow had lectured at him. Now more than ever. Because in his case, Love was literally blind.

Buffy finally turned to greet him. Her white, dead eyes stared directly at him, though he knew they couldn't actually see. "What'd you hear, love?" he asked.

Her brow wrinkled, but those white eyes remained the same. "Someone's coming. Probably Willow. Not likely trouble."

"Right-o." That was another thing he had learned, how to substitute words for his usual unconscious gestures.

After all, nodding meant nothing to a blind girl.
